Salary.com puts the average medical practice manager salary at $147,651 as of early 2026, reflecting the premium that larger practices and health systems place on credentialed management talent.

Location plays a significant role. Practice managers in major metros and high-cost states consistently out-earn the national average by a meaningful margin. Practice size matters too: managing a single-physician office and overseeing a 20-provider multispecialty group are very different jobs, and compensation reflects that.

Beyond the base salary, the CPPM credential carries weight in job searches in a way that experience alone does not. A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Register

How long is the exam and what is the passing score?

Can I take the CPPM exam from home?

Yes. AAPC offers both live remote proctoring from home and in-person testing center options. The remote option requires a closed room, reliable internet, and an external webcam. Both formats deliver the same exam.

How do I maintain the CPPM credential after passing?
